09.09.09

Wow, look at the date! Soooo cool.

If you are in Brazil or enjoy ordering magazines online, pick up the latest issue of TRIP Magazine! #180 is a special edition about life and death, and as such they have featured the whole Modified Scenes From My Childhood series plus a few other pieces. I can't read Portuguese, so I have no idea what the articles say, but I bet they are neat!

Do you like to read? Do you like to read books? Even if you are someone who can't read but likes to have books "around" to contribute to an illusion of intellectual prowess, BOOK CITY JACKETS Artist Edition No. 1 could be for you!!! However, it would be better if you really could read the books that will be so attractively adorning your shelves in their new book covers.

BCJ Artist Edition No. 1 covers feature drawings by Eveline Tarunadjaja, Matthew Caputo, and myself. Fall is here, don't let your books go naked.

We moved to Bed Stuy. Jealous of the locked internet network "party line" that perpetually taunts me. Pictures soon!

08.26.09 DAY 26

Berlin, MA for hang time with The Folks and one last nature fix before Brooklyn.

Crushing up the final accumulation of flowers and plants from across the country, for memory and nostalgia preservation in glass jars.

08.25.09 DAY 25

Canada is gated by an unmanned turnstyle.

So we went through and peeped da falls! We got "NONCOMPLIANT" slips coming back through to the U.S. because we didn't have passports or birth certificates. Tee hee!

08.24.09 DAY 24

Chicago > Brooklyn trek begins. Super sad to leave Michael after the whole month, and Maria, Havadine + co after only a couple days. New and old awesome friends. Adam takes Michael's seat for the last leg of the journey. We want to see Niagara Falls!

08.23.09 DAY 23

Had to do it

Adam came! And we all went to the bitch.

Havadine and I had matching cat shirts. 2cool.

Then dinner/crafting/beer/UNO. And NICK visited!! ^^^^

R.I.P. GREAT WHITE LEAPING HARE.
You were a huge and fearless beast, and you broke our car. Much respect.

Colorado

Does this look like a burrito? Confusion leads to keys locked in car. Surprised it took this long.

UTAH!

Contemplating existence in Zion National Park

Bryce > Zion... just putting it out there

blew my brain into pieces

08.18.09 DAY 18

This day was weird. The only pictures I have of our stint in San Francisco are of the Golden Gate Bridge, though we had an awesome time with Kim and a fairly high thrift success rate. On the other hand, we got a parking ticket, went to an obnoxious bar, froze in subzero temperatures, and apparently left a bag of items (shoes, VHS tapes) behind at Kim's house. But, Kim, rest assured, hang time was so awesome that none of that other stuff really matters, in retrospect.

After leaving San Francisco I think we drove back through the Mojave (really?) and I might have slept through Las Vegas. We ended up paying way too much to stay at the only hotel that wasn't also a casino, and to avoid a yelling, emaciated, leathery Rob Zombie drifter staggering towards us from the doorway of our only other lodging option.

08.17.09 DAY 17

We drove up the coast on Highway 1. Wow, que rico!!

San Francisco to see KIM!

08.16.09 DAY 16

Goodbye-foto shoot with Mike, Zack, Joel, Adam, Rainbow Road and Kool Rap.

SO sad to leave. : [[[

08.10.09 DAY 10

WE MADE IT TO SAN DIEGO ALIVE.
To celebrate we met up with Zack and Joel, nibbled on some p-za and made fun of a dog.

This is our new home.

Luce Loft has a big glass door.

Then we sat to the left of the big door to avoid onlookers.

08.09.09 DAY 9

The Wagon Wheel gave us massive food.

Some mighty stags

Mike drove us into L.A. and it was extremely stessful. Here is the side of an underpass.

Then I surprised Eric and didn't take any pictures.

Final simultaneous SEZIO FOTO-UPDATES: The Southwest!

08.07.09 DAY 7

We finally camped in Arizona at Homolovi State Park. Totally tent!

08.06.09 DAY 6

We looted a Salvation Army in Midland, and one in Odessa (above). Both were choice establishments, one yiedling a skateboard, some old white velcro hightops and a VHS called "AWESOME MINING!", the other a VHS of Videodrome and a small ceramic cow skull.

After that we drove right up to the border of Texas and Mexico, conveniently and concisely depicted by the GPS, Carmin.

Mexico is on the other side of this river.

We stopped to watch a lightning storm in New Mexico and THIS HAPPENED.

Sands Motel was where we found a paper bathmat labeled "BATH MAT" and two dollars in the microwave.

08.05.09 DAY 5

We cashed in on a rich'n'hearty continental breakfast (above), hit one Goodwill and two nonexistant thrift shops, and finally got out of Texarkana.

Post-thrift starvation pangs led us to these super hot nachos, with guacamole that can only be described as dank.

RAINBOWSNO = yessssss

Our highly anticipated camping destination turned out not to exist (running theme), so we watched the sun set and then drove to Midland Texas.

West Wind Motel was very seedy and had walls the exact color of Velveeta.

08.04.09 DAY 4

We left Tennessee in search of Graceland Too, which we found only a short ways into Mississippi. The outside of the house alone was worth the trip, but we were disappointed when no one answered the door.

To make up for not learning about Elvis, we bought two peaches from a friendly woman at a roadside stand.

Then when we pulled over to look at a map, I wrenched this Mississippi plant out of the ground.

We crossed the Mississippi and ended up in Arkansas, where we bought a lot of peaches and tomatoes from a farmstand situated between a gas station and McDonalds.

After failing to find our next two thrift-destinations, we made our way into Hot Springs, which was a total bust except for Bill Clinton.

That night we stayed in Texarkana and watched infomercials for THIS AMAZING PRODUCT.

More simultaneous SEZIO FOTO-UPDATES: The South!

08.03.09 DAY 3

We left Chris' house at 8am to throw ourselves off the 900 foot ZIPLINE at the wilderness camp where they work.

WOAH MIKE! Ziplining with a hard superhero stance. TOO COOL!

We were enthused to be suited up in these harnesses.

After that, we headed into Tennessee where we finally made it to the first Salvation Army on our route. Wanted to get me some grapes.

Our destination for the night was Memphis, where we stayed in our first seedy motel. We found weird booger-bugs in the corner of the bathroom door frame. If you want to see the video of Mike scraping them away with a coat-hanger, email one of us. Above is the sum of tissues I used that night to accomodate my road-cold.

Simultaneous SEZIO FOTO-UPDATES: Departure!

08.02.09 DAY 2

In the interest of time we were forced to leave Charlie's super magical fantasy fun house.

We had lunch with him at the local Hagerstown WAFFLE HOUSE!

I got an egg with cheese on a biscuit, and hashbrowns next to it. The cheese stuck to my teeth! (not pictured)

Then we ducked back east to Baltimore for a minute. We hung with Michael's awesome friend Sarv! We sat on her fire escape and I suffered from another severe bout of house-envy. Check out their beautiful plants/view combo! Gotta git one of those

We ended up in Virginia for the night, at Michael's other friend Chris' totally RAD mountain cabin pad! I will find a way to live there someday.

08.01.09 DAY 1

Michael and I are driving to San Diego. Here we are in the car.

We got stuck in SoHo right away.

Some bridge

We went to Charlie's AWESOME house in Hagerstown, Marlyand! We hung out on some porches and roofs.

We took this picture on the steps of Charlie's AWESOME house.

Hi what's up a month has passed and it is now the end of July. Lot's of stuff has happened. Here's an ambiguous, abbreviated list:

jungle juice, jefferson rooftop, icecream sandwiches, nailed a beer can with a battery from four stories above, fireworks, hot dogs, sweat, rain, dollar coors, trash factory gag reflex gained strength, an amazing hat, internet, pizza perfection, 39¢/lb tomatoes, Berkshire weeds, deer ticks, llamas, winnebago man, tshirt deconstruction, new old VHSs, children singing Beat It, polygons, a composition notebook, Mccarren, Prospect, bars, lightning, hollographic paper, html, disgusting TV at Tina's, and way too many animated gifs.

Here are some picture from this past weekend, at the India Street Mural Project opening, where our friend Ali Aschman did this badass mural (below, left) over the course of June.

Ali's mural = so cool.

That's Small Black, they are the best.

Duncan was here! Check out his new website. Be sure to click the Blue button.

Here I am with Andrzej in front of the burger headquarters. Plates and Records is a supperclub that has a keen understanding of how to make food that would all fall under the category of liquid gold, were it not for the fact that most of it is not liquid. Which is to say, they are some high class chefs.

06.24.09

I have an interview up in The Citrus Report, along side the formidably awesome Dave Kinsey. Eek! The Citrus Report is Upper Playground's web magazine, based out of San Francisco = check it out. Thanks Evan!

06.21.09

I wrapped 60 boxes for Exhibitology. Peace, boxes! I meant to take a picture of the boxes with all the ribbons on them, but then I accidentally went to see HEALTH INSTEAD AND IT WAS MIND-MELTING/BRAIN-BUSTING COMBOPAK!!

I spent Saturday cooling at Juan's Basement. We watched The Room (again, never too many times) and then Passion Pit layed down some passion-jamz in a passion-fashion.

In other news, it only rains now.

06.15.09

The day has finally come. Digital television has swept the nation, and old school analog television is way out.

To mourn the loss of Tyra in dayglo orange and pink and episodes of The Office that would only come in if someone held the bunny ears with their feet, I went out and bought these VHSs. All for $5 total! Holy cow.

Real Newz =
+ Diamond Collection will be in this year's 3x3 ProShow, and will be featured in the 3x3 Illustration Annual No. 6.
+ If you can read Swiss-German, check out my work on Switzerland's Kinki Magazine. Yay!
+ Marker Mountain and Sea Captain are for sale at the ROJO®artstore with a bunch of other work from some really gnarlystyle artists. Check it out if you are keen.

More soon. Promise! xo

I had jury duty in Massachusetts, so Jing came with me and we wandered around my home town. Here are some pictures of Berlin, from greenest to brownest.

Here is the cemetery, with two romantic trees.

An amazing glowing shrub.

Sitting for the last time behind the wheel of The Truck at Indian Head Farm, where I used to work with a ton of awesome people. The truck was being dismantled in preparation for its retirement to the junk yard. I will truly miss it.

05.17.09

I went to Baltimore this past weekend for the Picture Plane opening at Nudashank. It was super kool! I stayed with Sophy and Dave and their cat Monster, who are totally awesome for hanging out with me and hosting me on their couch and feeding me cereal. Thanks! We ate at ELVIS (above) and then stayed to watch The Office on their tv. OMG JIMnPAM! Thanks Elvis.

Sophy showed me this sweet park! There was a ton of grass, and we heard a cannon go off at 4pm. Rad!!

We went to Nudashank for the opening and there was this soft cat.

Picture Plane = $$$$! Here are some pictures from the opening.

There's Charlie patting the cat. Hey bud-dy!

05.09.09

Brooklyn already got so hot that this fire hydrant exploded with half & half - wow!

Today I am the proud new owner of Home Alone (FINALLY), some kind of NKOTB live performance goldmine, and National Lampoon's Euro Vaca on VHS. Sewww excited. Right now Clark Griswold is walking around in some lederhosen - what a goon! Doesn't he realize how ridiculous he looks?? This whole situation is ripe for disaster.

Remember, PICTURE PLANE opens on the 15th! Bring yoself.

05.06.09

PICTURE PLANE opening on May 15th!

Nudashank is pleased to present our second exhibition- “Picture Plane.” This show brings together paintings that combine hard-edged abstraction with a post-digital return to pictorial space and linear perspective. Equal parts modernism and classicism, the exhibiting painters are from a generation that has been influenced by screensavers, vector graphics, MS Paint, Google maps, and Photoshop. The paintings evince the pervading luminescence of the computer screen, the digital color spectrum, and the expanding universe of virtual spaces. Flat, planar shapes are used as devices to depict scenes void of inhabitants. These paintings reflect a new, synthesized (perhaps alienated) perception of the world and how visual information is coded, condensed, flattened, and transmitted.

Picture Plane features six artists: New York based Dan Bina and Morgan Blair, DC based Michael Dotson and Allison Reimus, and Baltimore based Tim Horjus and Dale Ihnken.

May 15 - June 19
Opening Reception: May 15
7 - 9 pm
405 W Franklin Street, 3rd Floor
Baltimore, MD 21201

If you are in or near Baltimore, come hang out with us! I am showing the Pussing Donut Mushroom Cloud. Kool!

05.04.09

I was in Providence for the weekend. I love Providence. I love my friends. I am back now listening to The Cars and thinking about tomorrow. I might buy some tomatoes. We'll see.

04.27.09

Some new work is up, including a bunch of new drawings and some photos. There is also a new series in the Illustration section called "Modified Scenes from my Childhood," and it is composed of modified scenes from my childhood. Home videos make me feel funny. Like an orange that's been peeled.

04.26.09

It's already next summer. I will be conducting business from the roof, McCarren Park, and the elevated patch of grass next to the Grand stop.

Buncha exciting stuff coming up, but it's secret for now. Shhhhh. However, here are some important things that have been on my mind: Tremors has once again proven itself to be a timeless masterpiece not to be reckoned with. Ice cream is of sudden appeal again. I have jury duty on May 27th.

04.19.09

Hello. I will have several pieces in next Saturday's "Inaugural Exhibition," presented by the Edward Andrew Gallery. Come snoop around some art.

I was invited to participate in The Ganesh Experiement at Brooklyn Artist's Gym in Gowanus. Each of thirty guest artists is meant to create a small, improvised work inspired by an unfolding soundscape of live, experimental music being performed in the same space. It is open to the public, so you are encouraged to come traipse around throughout the course of the night. There will be a musical sculpture in the gallery, nude models, and a cash bar.

Ch ch ch ch check it.

Miscellaneous:
Just mailed something important. More on that later if all goes according to plan! On the way back from the post office I saw a pigeon with a pegleg cooling out on Bushwick Ave.

So hard... so street.

03.05.09

I was invited to be part of OCHO Número Atómico, along with over 60 other international artists.

This show is the largest of ROJO's nine OCHO group exhibitions this year, taking place in nine different cities around the world: ®Barcelona, ®Milano, POP Sao Paulo, ClubBlast Rosario, Concrete Hermit London, We Love Asbaek Copenhagen, Inoperable Vienna, Carmichael Los Angeles & Subaquatica Madrid.

If you are in or around Barcelona, go check out the show for me! Look for the first three pieces in my drawings section: "Spice-Cat Post Spice," "Marker Mountain Study," and "Hallucinations of a Distinguished Sea Captain." I sent them via regular mail for a significantly cheaper price than FedEx, but without any guarantee of their arrival on time, in one piece, or at all. I've never felt like such an ass after saving over $200. But I crossed my fingers really hard and now I feel like a champ!

OCHO Número Atómico opens to the puclic at:
ROJO®artspace Barcelona
March 18th
7pm.

+ + +

Also, my work will be featured in ROJO's limited edition book (pictured above), a collaboration between the nine member galleries of the ®artspace global network and featuring work from more than 140 artists. I hear this beast has 320 pages of full color, fresh, textless art.

HOT.

Yippe Skippy! I finally got MOOSE in the mail all the way from the Netherlands.

Relevance:
I am in issue #004 of MOOSE Magazine, amid a humbling cross-section of artists. The design is totally gnarlyrad style, it is square, about a centimeter in thickness, with matte pages and a scent of crayons. It will fit right in on a bookshelf OR a coffee table, with it's dual book-magazine appearance.

In order to check it out, you must come over to my house, or:

/////////////////// BUY IT HERE! ////////////////////

02.25.09

Working with Exhibitology is awesome. When they called me up to help with a project involving 14,000 vinyl dots, how could I possibly refuse? Verily, I could not. And so, I inhaled a lot of foam dust and bondo fumes with some excellent people this week. Go check out the final results in Saks fifth avenue, and getchyur make-up did at the same time!

02.05.09

The wall is finished!

02.01.09

Here are my legs standing in front of the diamond wall at Domani.

I am taking the day off from this project because the subways are screwed up, the doors of the building will be locked, and no one will be going in and out because everyone in the world will be parked in front of the tv in anticipation of the superbowl. Which is today. Nevertheless, the diamonds are almost done, I have successfully incorporated magenta and black into their bodies and in the next couple days I will procceed to sand all the diamonds so that they look old.

01.26.09

Okay. Sorry about before. Commence blawg:

I'm painting this pile-of-diamonds mural (see top pic) at Domani Studios' newly renovated work space in DUMBO. It is a big, beautiful room now filled with people who seem by all accounts to be both nice and cool, which is nice and cool. Except, I spend 90% of my time there facing this wall, so this is mostly speculation. In general, I am having a swell time.

In the second picture, you can see my bag of curled tape, my jacket, and my foot. And in the third picture, a close-up of the curled tape. I have become somewhat attached to this bag of tape, and it was a tender moment today when it was finally retired to the trash.

On Friday, there is a show of sorts happening at Artland Bar, off the Lorimer stop on the L. If I understand correctly, there will be live music, comedy associated somehow with the Colbert Report, and art on the walls by Morgan Lappin, Jack Turnbull, Kate Nielsen, and myself. I am showing a HYDROCRACK print and a Respect Always The Worm print. Please, have a laugh/music/drink/art combo on our behalf.

And, hell why not - here is Richard Simmons' leg with pulsing hearts and lightning bolts dancing around it.

01.19.09

Heyyyyyyyyy.

Look, I've been thinking. I don't want to weird you out, but... here's the thing. I feel like... I want to take this to the next level. What say we turn this thing into a proper BLAWG? I just feel like I really need to blawg right now. Okay, great, here goes.

It seems that there was indeed the aforementioned show and it was a great success and many local artist and friend types came and partook in the merriment. What a festive time it was! Big/hell of thanks to Natalya and Aymeric and Jack and all who came. (See foto-pix above.) It's up all month, so feel free to go and buy everything up.

Right, next order of business then.

I got new keys, again, finally, and the accompanying sense of freedom is underwhelming since I've mainly been painting this pussing donut mushroom-cloud here. However, when I do leave the house, I can totally get back in! Wow. What else has happened.

Actually - sorry to toy with you like this but, perhaps this was not the best time for a BLAWG after all. It's like 3 hours and 22 some-odd minutes into the am, and all that I have to report is still pending. Soooo, seeyalater. Sorry for the build-up. XO

01.04.09

Go check out SEZIO.COM!! ^^^

Thanks to Zack Nielsen for this badass feature! I am blushing with delight. I recommend browsing through this site thoroughly if you dig the sweet art/music/culture combo pak. Also: woodgrain = +++. RADICAL!

01.03.09

So, it's 2009 now. What a totally freaky, wild thing to have happened. I know, right?

I have a show at AKA Potion Cafe, it opens NEXT SATURDAY, and YOU'RE INVITED!

It is called HELLO BUSHWICK (see large animated gif above)
248 McKibbin St, Brooklyn NY
Saturday, January 10th
7 - 9 pm
With music by Elf Ears aka everyone's favorite Jack Turnbull!
You can take the L to either the Morgan stop or the Montrose stop. What convenience!

Since I lost my keys in L.A., finally got new ones and subsequently lost those the same day, I have been spending a lot of time in our studio working on a new series of pieces for the show. If you're into converging triangles, come check out a Venn-Diamond-Gram!

Other newz:
I'm one of nine artists featured in the winter issue of Sixth Finch, an awesome online journal of poetry and art. Go have a look! There are some really amazing pieces up, and I'm happy to be alongside them.

I've done a bunch of new drawings for the Newport Mercury. Say, why not treat yourself to a free copy - what could go wrong?

More exciting stuff coming up really soon!!!!

Oh yeah, check out this awesome thing:

Macaulay Culkin holding a rifle in the best movie of all time, Home Alone.

My grandpa's gun rack against THE VERY SAME WALL PAPER.
Wrap your mind around that one. I know. It rules.

12.25.08

Aaannnnddddddd... NOW it's Christmas.

11.25.08

I was asked to do the art for Shawn Anthony's EP "Beautiful Life," the single from which plays during the closing credits of the most recent episode of Entourage. I did not see the episode, but I am taking Google's word for it. This job wins the award for the shortest deadline yet, clocking in at just over 2 hours. Ha!

Thanks to a tip-off from Charlie about Juxtapoz's generosity with bandwidth, you can find my work on the front page of their website TODAY! Really looks like I kinda might be in the magazine, huh? Well it's actually a trick of the eye known as the reader art section but hey, potatoes/potat... -ohs.

If you are in Rhode Island, get yourself a fresh hot copy of the Newport Mercury and flip around until you see a drawing of the Underdog balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I drew that. Sweet.

Tomorrow I am going back to Massachusetts for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see trees again.

11.11.08

I was lucky enough to have been flown out to L.A. this past weekend for the premier of Mike Manning's "A Work of Art" at Cella Gallery, where I was also showing some drawings I did for the film. It was a super night and I met a lot of swell people! Thanks to Mike for having me involved and to Lauren for being an amazing host and a supportive friend when I choked on a fly in front of the Hollywood sign.

Perhaps those who know me will find it predictable then that given the overall hitch-free and enjoyable nature of the trip, I did leave my wallet, phone and keys somewhere in Hollywood the morning of my return flight. Thanks to the lovely people who bought some of my pieces the night before as well as some divine, unprecedented miracle, I happened to have my I.D. and enough cash in my pocket to get myself to LAX and back to New York.

Of course, this still leaves me without cellular communication or access to my bank account or home. I am dealing with this by telling myself that my things will turn up in Lauren's car (where I have been assured they are not), and that in the meantime this predicament will lead to many rich adventures (it won't). For now, you can contact me via email or telekinesis.

Hooray! Here's a new clearing full of crystal-bundles for PlanAdvisor Magazine.

It has been frigid lately and I need new shoes. Shoepac will not be able to endure the winter, this much is clear to me now. I may have to replace him with some kind of boot. : [

Hello. Several points of discussion are in order.

+ House-warming party this weekend = come
+ Painting zebra stripes on the walls
+ Interning at Pamplemousse Press
+ Crystal-encrusting pears with Exhibitology
+ Still working on art for Drive Like Maria's new album and then The States
+ L.A. November 7 - 10

But wow, guess what! After all the pears are encrusted with crystals, you can totally still hire me because I have yet to procure that neat part-time job I've been looking for all day every day!

If you are still thinking of a clever way to employ me, here are some ideas. I could:

+ paint your walls - solid colors, shapes, patterns, text, or other stuff (piles of eggs?)
+ assist you in your busy artist studio.
+ draw a gnarly/honest portrait of your family and/or beloved family pet, or house.
+ work at your print shop, record store, puppy play house or vegetable stand.
+ continue to paint whatever I want, and you could buy the paintings from me.
+ test milkshakes for you, to make sure they are alright.
+ I can also tie shoes, speak some Spanish, make awesome scrambled-eggs, sew, walk, and make mix-tapes.

Been wall-paintin' with Colin. My days are typically divided between this endeavor, scouring Craigslist for some semblance of a worthwhile part-time job, thinking of the best way to bulk-order tyvek jumpsuits, and drawing a giant donut-mountain bleeding frosting. More on that... some other time.

On Tuesday, Jing and I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, where the food is relatively cheap and everyone is extremely, extremely happy. Subsequently, I scalded the roof of my mouth on a piece of hot sandwhich that I made with my purchased food items.

Sunset 4 u.

Yesterday Charlie and I set off for Salvation Army in search of a small bookcase for my room. We ended up walking from Union Square to Times Square and back to Union again without getting a bookcase, but ending up instead with a VHS of Trainspotting and a box full of gaudy gold buttons.

I just finished a bunch of drawings for Mike Manning's film "A Work of Art." The drawings are for a scene at Cella Gallery in North Hollywood. I can't wait to see the finished film, it should be sweet!

Also, if you are in Narragansett this fall you should stop in at the OneWay Gallery on your way to Crazy Burger and check out the Vicious Landscape show! The opening is Friday the 26th, from 7-9 pm. The Hunt should be hanging around there somewhere, and throughout the course of the fall you may also happen upon a bunch of my hydrocrack and gun prints, and even the big, gouache, pixel-rainbow piece that I titled something too long to write down without embarassing myself.

Salutations from our place on the Morgan stop. (see above)

I have been subsisting on raisins, peanut butter, beer, and a gallon of ice that I drink as it melts. We have sealed every crack in our apartment to prevent the entrance of bugs.

Right now I am looking out our huge window at other lofts and a little blimp against the edge of a sunset. Groover and Tiger Power are doing well, and Charlie arrives on Friday. We are currently welcoming all visitors, and can now proudly offer several seating options in the living room area.

In other news, arting soon begins for Drive Like Maria's new release.
It sounds amazing... I'm super excited about this one. Belgium should be too. You should all be excited. Excitement for everyone.
